The Russian President invited the US President to visit Moscow and expressed his readiness to receive US officials in Russia on areas of mutual interest, including, of course, the topic of Ukraine and the Ukrainian settlement. Putin and Trump also agreed to continue personal contacts, including organizing a personal meeting.”
STORYLINE:
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed Ukraine in a phone conversation on Wednesday that lasted almost an hour-and-a-half.

Peskov said Trump called for a quick cessation of hostilities and a peaceful settlement.

“President Putin, in his turn, emphasized the need to remove the root causes of the conflict and agreed with Trump that a long-term settlement could be achieved through peace talks,” Peskov told reporters.

"The Russian President also supported one of the main theses of the head of the American state, that the time has come for our countries to work together," Peskov added.

He said the two leaders also discussed the Middle East peace settlement, the Iranian nuclear program and bilateral economic ties.

“The Russian President invited the US President to visit Moscow and expressed his readiness to receive US officials in Russia on areas of mutual interest, including, of course, the topic of Ukraine and the Ukrainian settlement,” Peskov said.
