The Imperial Riddim EP features two distinct cuts, each delivering its own unique vibe and message, built around a powerful riddim created by our friends Dubbing Sun and Bukkha. The A-side, “Really and Truly,” is a heartfelt One Drop version featuring Haroon Ayaaz, the talented singer of Dubapest HiFi. Haroon’s uplifting Rastafari anthem is a praise song to His Imperial Majesty, carrying deep spiritual significance. This version is enriched by live drum recordings from Karigan, adding an organic warmth and vibrant energy to the track.
On the B-side, “Spoiled Cake” brings a heavier Steppas vibe. Legendary Jamaican singer Jay aka Easton Clarke delivers a profound message about life’s true priorities, using the metaphor of avoiding the “spoiled cake” to encourage mindfulness and gratitude. Vale’s trumpet lines add a melodic dimension to both cuts. The EP’s visual presentation ties it all together, with cover and label design by Darkwing Dub. The artwork showcases the original Lion of Judah, a historic emblem used during the reign of Emperor Haile Selassie, reflecting the project’s deep connection to Rastafari heritage.
