When it comes to playing Mario Kart World or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch or the new Nintendo Switch 2, there is no shortage of control schemes. You have the classic Motion Controls (tilt-to-steer), split Joy-Cons for multiplayer, Handheld Mode, or the trusty Pro Controller.
But what if you wanted to take it to the absolute extreme? What if you wanted to play Mario Kart using a professional-grade Sim Racing Setup?
I’m not talking about those plastic shells you snap a remote into. I’m talking about using a real Logitech G29 or Gran Turismo wheel with full pedals and force feedback. Thanks to the Brook Gaming Ras1ution 2 adapter, this is now a reality on the Switch 2! So let's Use An Actual Racing Steering Wheel On Mario Kart 8 & Mario Kart World
🏎️ The Setup: Brook Ras1ution 2
In today’s video, we are testing out the Brook Ras1ution 2 (often misheard as "Resolution"). This powerful little converter is designed to bridge the gap between platforms. It makes your older racing wheels compatible with PlayStation 3, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and now, the Nintendo Switch 2.
For this test, I dug out my "old school" Logitech racing wheel to see if I could turn the chaos of Mario Kart World into a legitimate driving simulation.
How I Mapped It:
Gas & Brake: Instead of using face buttons, I mapped the 'A' and 'B' buttons directly to the floor pedals. This gives you that authentic racing feel.
Drifting: I mapped the Right Paddle Shifter to the drift button (R/ZR).
Items: The Left Paddle Shifter is set to deploy items.
🤯 The Experience: Force Feedback on Mario Kart?!
As soon as the race starts, you can hear and feel the difference. The Force Feedback actually works! When you hit the boost pads, drift around corners, or get smacked by a Red Shell, the wheel fights back. It adds a layer of immersion to Mario Kart that I honestly didn't think was possible.
Drifting with a physical steering wheel feels incredible. It’s "wild" in the best way possible. I tested this setup on Gran Turismo 7 last night, and while it was fantastic there, using it for an arcade kart racer is a completely different kind of fun. My daughters are going to be absolutely jealous when they see this setup—I might never get my Switch 2 back!
⚠️ The One Downside
It isn't entirely perfect, though. Because a racing wheel is designed for driving cars, not combat, you lose access to the Analog Stick.
The Limitation: I found that I couldn't throw items backward (holding back on the stick) or aim them forward specifically. The items just deploy in the default direction. BUT, I can remap the controls in the app and be able to fic this!
If you have an old racing wheel collecting dust in your closet, you need to try this. It breathes new life into the game!
🗣️ Join the Discussion!
I want to hear from you in the comments:
Have you ever played Mario Kart with a real racing wheel?
Wheel vs. Controller: Do you think you could beat a Pro Controller player using a Logitech wheel?
The Setup: Would you buy an adapter like this to use your PS5/Xbox gear on the Switch 2?
