In this Kyrgyzstan travel vlog, I embark on a 48 hour horse trek through the mountains of Kyrgyzstan to reach the beautiful Song-Kul Lake. Throughout my journey, I stayed at nomadic yurt camps with local Kyrgyz families, learning about the nomadic lifestyle in Kyrgyzstan and experiencing it first-hand. This was a true adventure in Kyrgyzstan!
The beginning of my horse trek through the mountains of Kyrgyzstan was my first time EVER riding a horse, and thus, I began my Kyrgyzstan Travel Vlog. Luckily, I had a local Kyrgyz guide to help make sure I don’t get lost in the mountains and to help me if I needed it with my horse. After jumping on to my horse for the first time, I learned how to tell the horse to go faster, slow down, and turn left and right. With that, I was off, riding a horse for the very first time, and in the Kyrgyz mountains, nonetheless. From the beginning of the horse trek in Kyrgyzstan, the scenery was absolutely incredible. It was so peaceful riding a horse with endless mountains in sight and the only sound you could hear was the horse walking and my backpack thumping against my back.
At the end of Day 1 of my 48 hour horse trek, my guide and I arrived at a yurt camp in the middle of the mountains. Yurts are round tents that nomadic people use to live in around Kyrgyzstan. Many nomadic people in Kyrgyzstan chose to live in the mountains during the summer months and then move closer to a city lower in elevation to escape the cold during the winters. I was lucky enough to experience life like a nomadic family living in a yurt in Kyrgyzstan, witnessing them cook, gather firewood, and raise their animals.
After sleeping in a yurt camp in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan, I woke up early with my local guide to finish our horse trek to Song-Kul Lake. My horse trek on Day 2 was much different than it was on Day 1. Although we were trekking through stunning scenery, it was extremely dangerous. On just my second day ever riding a horse, I was scaling mountains and riding on extremely steep cliffs. After finally making it over the mountain pass, I rode for another few hours down the valley to Song Kul Lake. Song Kul Lake is a beautiful blue lake in Kyrgyzstan where you can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere surrounded by tons of cows and horses during the day, and beautiful stargazing at night. I had the opportunity to stay with another nomadic family in their yurt camp on day 2 at Song Kul Lake before ending my adventure the next morning.
Horse trekking through the mountains of Kyrgyzstan and learning about nomadic life was an incredible experience and one that I will never forget! I hope you enjoyed my Kyrgyzstan Travel Vlog!
