Coaching the GB U23 M4- through a short build from the finish. In this case we were using this drill to set up a good catch position early in the recovery, in time with the movement of the boat and the rest of the crew. The calls for 'rocking the trunk' and 'staying tall' were to encourage the crew to get their length from effective, strong positioning rather than taking the easier route of rolling everything forward. It is important to have the hips and trunk rocked forward on the recovery, because that position is going to help to hold the force created at the catch and then generate even more force into the second half of the drive.
Poor recovery sequencing creates a weak catch position, which in turn limits the force you produce on the drive.
