Deactivated drones count towards AI limit and break reinforcements.
That's why you should never destroy drones in the game. Always disable them and then deactivate them. The more deactivated drones around the less enemies the game will be able to spawn during forced alert sequences and ambushes, which is demonstrated in this video.
ESCAPE Enemy Forces objective implies that you should leave the area, because the game throws infinite reinforcements at you. But if you deactivated enough drones in the process the area becomes chock full of AIs, the game won't be able to exceed AI limit, and the alert phase will stop. In this case 8 drones deactivated during ambush were enough to break it. Check the mini map at 00:07, there were 4 additional cargo drones + 1 riot drone that patrolled the roof before everything starts.
