I have completed the Missouri River 340 race thirteen times over the past twenty years. Every race is different - weather, river conditions, boats, strategy.
In this video, I reflect on what I learned from the 2025 Missouri River 340.
I finished the race solo and unsupported at age 70 in 61 hours and 41 minutes and I still enjoyed the process.
I talk about:
Returning to my Sea Wind expedition canoe after a long break
What worked and what didn’t in my race setup
Sleep strategies on sandbars and at checkpoints
Race pacing and stop strategy
Self-management without a support crew
Filming the race with a POV action camera
If you’ve raced the MR340 or any endurance paddle race I’d love to hear what you learned. Your experience may help others, especially first-timers.
See you on the river or in the next video.
