Описание: William Carey (1761–1834), often called the Father of Modern Missions, began life as a poor village shoemaker in England. With little education, he taught himself languages while working at a cobbler’s bench, driven by a burning desire to bring the Gospel to the nations. In 1793, he sailed with his family to India, where he endured poverty, disease, the death of his children, and the mental collapse of his wife. Yet Carey refused to turn back. He mastered local languages, translated the Bible into Bengali, Sanskrit, Hindi, and more, and campaigned against practices like sati and infanticide. In 1818, he founded Serampore College, opening education in arts, sciences, and theology to all. By the end of his forty years in India, Carey had laid the foundations for modern missions worldwide. His motto, “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God,” continues to inspire generations, showing that God can use even the most ordinary life to change the world.
