UL Global Celebrates the Year of the Horse

Описание: Last week we had the pleasure of hosting Chinese New Year in the Globe and at the new Student Centre where students from the The Irish World Academy of Music & Dance and Dance performed music along with both contemporary and traditional dances for our students thanks to the amazing efforts of our UL Global Engagement team, Sean McGrath, and Yi Bao.

We had the honour of a visit from Chinese Ambassador for Ireland. H.E. Zhao Xiyuan and Madam Li Yi. H.E. Zhao Xiyuan addressed us with an inspiring speech about the lovely performances and how the opening of the Limerick International College Henan Polytechnic University (LICHPU) is a promising alliance for educational pathways between Ireland and China.

VPCGE Professor Colin Fitzpatrick also addressed the audience with kind words welcoming everyone to the beautiful celebration of the Year of the Horse and honouring LICHPU:
"University of Limerick is a young university by global standards, but one that has always looked outward. Much like Ireland, we are a small open university and international engagement is central to that and a core part of our mission in education, research, and societal impact. We see international partnership as a long-term project of investment in people and knowledge."

Professor Fitzpatrick also noted the importance of these cross-cultural celebrations, "These events are not only important in making our international students feel valued, but they also really enhance our reputation as a truly cosmopolitan campus".

After the performances Professor Fitzpatrick brought H.E. Zhao and Madam Li Yi to meet Professor Shane Kilcommins, Acting President of the University of Limerick at the acclaimed Plassey House while students and guests enjoyed delicious traditional Chinese snacks in Eden Restaurant.
