(Turkey vlog part 8) The medieval Armenian city of Ani has been a location that I’ve wanted to visit for a long time. I was quite lucky to finally have the opportunity, despite the ongoing plague this summer. Ani is an fascinating historical site both regarding it’s medieval era and contemporary situation. It is also known as the city of 1001 churches and was once the most influential city in the region with around 100 000 inhabitants a millennia ago. Today it is in ruins and sits right next to the Turkish border with Armenia. For a long time a special permission was needed to visit the site, nowadays it is more relaxed and it is easy to access the site.
