In this talk, Arlo Davis explores how the simplicity of a knife can lead to seeing moments of decision more clearly. In that moment of clarity, concepts of family extend through time going from our ancestors and reaching the people in generations still to come.
Arlo Nasruk Davis is from Nome and Selawik, Alaska. He is the son of Joseph Davis and Martha Ramoth, grandson to Arthur Davis and Nancy Fanestil, and Ralph and Emma Ramoth. He has been to all four northern hemispheres and lived in or traveled through fourteen of the United States, including the nation’s capitol. Living mostly within the Arctic or sub-Arctic, Ar lived in Alaska’s Southeast for a few years, where he learned what non-snow precipitation is. Basing the tempo of life in the tundra, with its food, climate, weather, and communications, has given Ar a way to see different lifestyles with their differences and similarities. Having recently graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with a major in English and a minor in Dance, he is now at the University of Alaska Fairbanks studying in the Arctic and Northern Studies program, focusing on Arctic Policy.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
