I'm taking the road through the Icelandic Highlands towards Laugahraun. Sigöldufoss waterfalls, the landscapes of Fjallabak, the Ljótipollur volcanic crater, sheep grazing by the roadside, and crossing an impressive river ford punctuate this wild adventure in the heart of Iceland.

I'm heading to the Icelandic Highlands, a raw, mineral, and spectacular landscape. First stop: Sigöldufoss waterfalls. The water cascades down in several branches, in an almost surreal setting, its colors changing with the light. I stop for a few moments to observe the strength of the current and the contrast between the clear water and the dark rocks. I then continue towards Fjallabak, one of the most impressive areas of the Highlands. Here, the landscapes seem painted. The rhyolitic mountains offer ochre, green, and red hues, while the tracks wind between the peaks. As I drive, I spot Icelandic sheep by the roadside, perfectly at ease in this rugged environment. Their presence is a reminder that these lands, wild as they may be, are still used for summer grazing. The road then leads me to Ljótipollur, an impressive volcanic crater. Its deep blue inner lake contrasts sharply with the crater's red and black walls. I stop at the rim, taking the time to look around, to grasp the scale of the place. Ljótipollur is the result of an explosive eruption, and it bears witness to the intense volcanic activity that has shaped Iceland for millennia. I get back on the track to finally reach Laugahraun. Access isn't straightforward. To enter the park, I have to cross an impressive ford. I slow down, analyzing the current, the depth, the trajectory. The car slowly enters the water, the sound of the engine mingling with the lapping of the current. It's always a slightly tense moment, but also incredibly rewarding. Once on the other side, the feeling of isolation is complete. Laugahraun then appears as a vast lava field, sculpted by time, surrounded by mountains and rivers. Here, all is silence, space, and light. You understand why these Highlands are so captivating. They offer a more demanding, but also more authentic, Iceland, reserved for those who take the time to venture there. This journey between waterfalls, volcanoes, colorful landscapes, and isolated tracks perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the Icelandic Highlands: a powerful, unpredictable, yet profoundly fascinating nature. #HighlandsIceland #Laugahraun #WildIceland #Sigoldufoss #Fjallabak #Ljotipollur #VolcanoIceland #IcelandicLandscapes #RoadTripIceland #IcelandicTrails #GueIceland #4x4Iceland #NatureExtreme #TravelIceland #AdventureIceland #VolcanicLands #IcelandNature #ExplorationIceland #HighlandsIceland #IcelandAdventure
