Record heat wave on Cyprus claims 2 lives

(4 Jul 2017) Two women have died on the eastern Mediterranean island of Cyprus where temperatures have hit record highs, according to officials.
The two women, aged 75 and 60, who were said to have died from heatstroke, were thought to have been both suffering from serious health problems.
Cyprus' Meteorological Service said weekend temperatures across the island were the highest on record for the month of July in 30 years except in the capital Nicosia where a scorching 44.6 degrees Celsius (112.3 Fahrenheit) was a degree less than the 2010 record.
Tourists and locals alike were struggling to cope with the excessive heat.
According to the country's meteorological service, high temperatures are set to start receding from Wednesday, as they have done already in Greece and Turkey.
