On November 8, 2025, the FAA issued Emergency Airworthiness Directive 2025-23-51, grounding all MD-11 and MD-11F aircraft over a critical structural failure risk discovered after the tragic incident.

The doomed UPS 2976 MD-11F (N259UP) lost its left engine during takeoff from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, killing 14 people, including all crew members and 11 on the ground.
