Manufacturing ball screw nuts by means of the traditional grinding has many disadvantages. The grinding wheel and shaft are limited by the bore diameter, profile depth and lead length effecting the strength of the tooling. The other disadvantage is the grinding wheel requires at interval dressing for sharpening and cleaning purposes making it a very time consuming operation.
With the Hembrug Mikroturn series you only require two standard tool tips (pre- and finish operation), two specially designed boring bars and specially by Hembrug designed software. The software is used to describe the exact contour of the raceway with the tool tip. This way of manufacturing means that ball screw nuts can be machined in general three times faster than grinding!
