Van internal roof bars - Renault Trafic Business 2016

In this video, I finally get around to making a feature on my DIY van internal roof bars that I made to hold my window cleaning water fed poles, pressure washer loading ramps & various commercial cleaning equipment.

my bars are made from heavy-duty Unistrut slotted channel (41x21mm), which I sourced locally from electrical wholesalers.

for my installation, I did not need to drill anything, and it was as easy as measuring, cutting, and bolting into place along the underside of my van roof strengtheners with the OEM factory M8 threaded inserts.

With the unistrut being slotted, there were no issues with fitment as the slots allowed easy alignment and bolting.

for the bolts, I used M8x 25mm 8.8 grade bolts
blue loctite 243 medium strength

washers for the internal of the unistrut were standard M8x 30mm zinc

to create a stand-off from the van roof strengtheners, I used affordable white rubber door stops and drilled them out to M8
these help space the unistrut off the surface and help with the dissimilar metals, being that the van is mild steel and the unistrut is galvanised.

to attach my pole tubes that were standard 68mm Floplast down pipe is used M6 long sprung univolt channel nuts

this was a very easy yet invaluable project and one that I've used on my vans

tools needed

sharpie
steel square
angle grinder & 1mm cutting discs or hacksaw
ratchet 13mm & 6mm sockets
tape measure
cordless drill and 8mm drill bit to bore out door stops
