School nurse calls police after seven kids are exposed to Fentanyl

Описание: Just 72 hours after a fentanyl scare at an elementary school in Amherst County, the school's health assistant who treated the students who were exposed to the deadly drug, sat down with ABC13 in an exclusive interview.

According to ACPS Superintendent Dr. William Wells, seven students unknowingly ate gummy bears from a plastic bag that tested positive for fentanyl. The superintendent said five students were taken to the hospital; two by ambulance and three by their parents.

Before being taken to the hospital, all seven students went to see the school health assistant Erica Maddox. Both she and Dr. Wells said the first student came to her office Tuesday afternoon at 1:20. She said she originally treated this as a cold.

"Just with symptoms, I wasn't 100% sure," Maddox said. "I thought maybe it could have just been a bug going around."

According to Dr. Wells, just 20 minutes later, the six other students showed up. The health assistant said they were all exhibiting the same symptoms.

"The symptoms were nausea, vomiting, headache, and muscle spasms," Maddox said.
