The Latin Vulgate, completed around 405 AD by Saint Jerome, became the standard Latin Bible of the Roman Catholic Church. Covering both the Old and New Testaments, it unified Scripture for theology, education, and liturgy throughout the Middle Ages. The Vulgate remained the Church’s official Latin Bible until the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, which permitted vernacular translations. Today, it remains a vital historical and scholarly reference.
