Hello everyone! For the last upload of the year, I wanted to cover one of the songs that has been on my mind ever since I heard it live.

I first heard "Kissing the machine" during the Earthification 2025 concert and immediately knew I had to arrange it. To me, the style feels quite different from Minami's usual discography. From what I understood of her thoughts on writing the song, it felt deeply emotional, and I’ve done my best to preserve that specific mood in this arrangement.

The dynamics start quite intimately — even through the first chorus — building gradually toward a peak at 3:15. To maintain this quiet atmosphere (and since I only had two hands), Section D (1:43) focuses just on the piano lines. Later, at the bridge (2:49), I used a little trick: I omitted the bass note on the first beat to let the melody ring out longer against the incoming guitar part. I found this worked much better than the alternative of half-pedaling, which tended to sound a bit muddy. If I had Animenz’s reach, I’d probably have played a tenth (G-D-B) there, but I settled for a second-inversion G chord — though if you have big hands, you should go for the tenth instead!

The lead-up to the climax at 3:07 features some "echo" triplets; the original layers were a bit hard to decipher, so I just kept the arrangement simpler there to ensure it stayed clean. Since I can’t play drums on a piano, the left-hand glissando is my best attempt at capturing that percussive energy (lol). Interestingly, I originally thought ending on a non-root chord was rare for Minami, but after checking seven of her songs, I realized only "Kawaki wo Ameku" ends on a root (F# m)...
