SINUS SURGERY (ESS)
Tiny telescopes called endoscopes revolutionized nasal and sinus surgery by letting the rhinologists or sinus surgeons ‘observe’ the insides of nasal and sinus passages. Endoscopic sinus surgery is usually undertaken to bring relief from chronic rhinosinusitis (inflammation in nose and sinuses that’s unrelieved for at least 3 months) that’s not responding satisfactorily to medications. The cause of this inflammation can be anything from infection, allergies, and irritants to polyps (non-cancerous swelling of the nasal/sinus lining).
In some instances, Acute rhinosinusitis leading to complications may also need Endoscopic sinus surgery to treat or prevent the complications. It can be undertaken under general anesthesia.
BALLOON SINUPLASTY
Newer advances – such as the balloon dilating catheter and its adaptation to sinus surgery – are improving sinus surgeries’ effectiveness and accuracy.
IMAGE-GUIDED SINUS SURGERY (NAVIGATION ASSISTED)
The navigation-assisted sinus surgery aids in precision and increases the safety of the procedure. The outcomes are optimal using navigation assistance and it's an effective tool in revision sinus surgeries.
