As an elementary art teacher, I was looking for a fun way to teach my third graders about cave paintings and the history of art. I found a great book about a girl who went on a field trip to a cave but I couldnt find one about how the paintings were discovered. After a little research I came across the story of 3 boys and their dog, Robot. Apparently, they accidently discovered the entrance to the cave of Lascaux while exploring the woods in the area on September 12, 1940. I thought the story was incredibly interesting and wanted to illustrate it for my students. I thought it would make a great series of books since there were SO many ancient civilizations that made incredible art advancements that we could learn about. So the second book involves art from Ancient Egypt and the third book is about ANCIENT CHINA!
