BACKGROUND
Capital One pulls from all 3 credit bureaus, meaning you’ll get 3 inquiries for each new credit card application (i.e. 1 on Experian, 1 on TransUnion, and 1 on Equifax). However, you can freeze either Experian or Equifax to avoid one of those inquiries (TransUnion must be unlocked). So, consider freezing the report that has the greatest number of inquiries so Capital One won’t see them. This may put the odds of approval more in your favor. For me, I had the highest inquiry count on Experian, so I decided to freeze that report before submitting my Capital One Venture X credit card application.
Note 1: Performing a security freeze on your credit report is not necessary. It’s simply a tactic that can be used when it makes sense, as in the case of hiding inquiries that could potentially hurt your approval odds.
Note 2: Freezing credit reports won’t work for all applications with all banks. The information provided in this video is specific to Capital One as of the recording of this video.

WHY I CHOSE THIS CARD
1. Welcome Bonus: 100,000 miles is worth $1,000+ towards travel

2. Spend Requirement / Return on Spend: I could spend $10,000 in 6 months with my normal expenses. $1,000 bonus ÷ $10,000 spend = 10% return (great!)

3. Capital One Lounges: DFW airport = 1st location. I fly to / through this airport multiple times per year.

4. Strong Value with Simple Rewards: Easy to wipe out travel purchases via statement credit at 1.0¢ per point. Potential for higher value via transfer partners.
