Mitch McCullough’s Alpine M64 chassis No. 1711 at the 2022 Le Mans Classic.
This car won the 1150cc Prototype class at Le Mans in 1964, finishing 17th overall with drivers Roger de Lageneste and Henry Morrogh. At the same time, it won the Index of Thermal Efficiency, averaging 21 mpg for 292 laps–or 2436 miles.
The victory was pivotal for Alpine and Gordini: It achieved the goals of both the small automaker and the engine builder, and it helped them secure motorsports support from Renault going forward. A few weeks later it won its class at the Riems 12-hour race.
After running Le Mans a second time in 1965, the car was put away for 50 years. Graham Long completed the restoration and we put it back on the track, returning to Le Mans Classic in 2022.
We are now taking it to Le Mans Classic for the second time in July 2025.
