🔥 What You'll See in This Video:
📌 Talwar ka Matam
The sword matam is a powerful expression of grief. Performed with full devotion and sincerity, mourners strike their backs with sharpened swords (talwar) to symbolize the pain of Karbala and the suffering of Imam Hussain (A.S) and his followers.
📌 Zanjir ka Matam
Zanjir zani involves chains with blades used to strike the back. It’s a symbolic act of mourning that reflects the ultimate sacrifice and pain endured by Imam Hussain (A.S) and his loyal companions on the day of Ashura.
📌 Qama ka Matam
Qama matam (using knives or daggers) is among the most intense forms of azadari. This practice highlights the emotional depth of love and sorrow felt by the Shia community for the Ahlebait (A.S).

💔 Why We Mourn:
Our matam is not just a ritual; it’s a living tribute to the tragedy of Karbala. The battle that took place on the 10th of Muharram in 61 AH was not just a war—it was a stand against injustice, tyranny, and oppression.
Imam Hussain (A.S), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), stood alone with only 72 of his faithful followers, including his family, against the army of Yazid which numbered in thousands. Despite being heavily outnumbered, they refused to bow down to injustice and were martyred.
These rituals are reminders of that resistance. They are emotional and physical expressions of our loyalty, sorrow, and love for the martyrs of Karbala.
