In this video, I'm out on the southeastern side of the Olympic Peninsula, at the back end of Lake Cushman. My plan is to hike up the Copper Creek Trail, trail #876, hoping for a good overview of the lake, after a grueling 2400-foot elevation gain on the trial. I would not classify this as an easy trail, because of the steep elevation change.
It's Sunday morning at Lake Cushman, and it's not too busy yet as I arrive early morning. As the day continues, the crowds come out at the shores of the lake, but things remain quiet back in the forest. The trail is definitely an uphill slog, with switchbacks and stair steps at various parts of the ascent. The trail is well-maintained, and the trail maintenance crews have put in a lot of work over the years, cutting back trees, and even notching pass throughs on particularily big fallen logs.
After ascending over 2000 feet in elevation, I decided to not push myself too hard, and turn back before reaching to top. Even though I did not summit this mountain, it was still an excellent hike surrounded by Old Growth trees of the Olympic National Forest. I had some beautiful views of Lake Cushman from my vantage point way up the mountainside.
