The rubber cushions in the rear sprocket carrier were loose on my DL1000. This caused clunky shifting, a lot of terrible noise, and poor power delivery to the rear wheel. I fixed this on the cheap with an old bicycle inner tube. Took it for a test ride after it was all back together and it's a night and day difference. The new cushions are $10 each. On my bike there are five, but most bikes have six. If this fix only lasts a couple thousand miles, then I'm out 30 minutes of time and part of an old inner tube (that I've used for various other things as well).
