Howdy y'a'll! It's February 4th, and can you guess today's theme? It's Country Thursday! Yessir, every Thursday we will listen to a different country album by a Black artist. Today's album is the Legendary Deford Bailey - Country Music's First Black Star.
Not only was Deford Bailey a pioneer for Black Americans in the Country music industry - he was a pioneer for the Country music industry as a whole, being the first ever performer on the Grand Ole Opry, and the first ever artist to record in Nashville. Also being one of the first to ever perform live on the radio, he was a major music celebrity in the 20's and 30's. Although BMI and ASCAP effectively ended his music career over a licensing disagreement, he still lives on posthumously as the "Harmonica Wizard."
Go listen, and enjoy!
