Kodanadu Viewpoint Ooty is situated in the panchayat town of Kotagiri in the district of Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu. Jayalalithaa's Kodanad estate used to be Tamil Nadu's 'pseudo-secretariat' after she came to power. Jayalalithaa's niece Deepa Madhavan says the estate wasn't the former CM's ancestral property, and it's still unclear who owns it. In April 2017, Om Bahadur, a watchman employed at the Kodanad estate of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa, was found murdered. A gang of robbers was said to be behind the crime. However, road accidents subsequently left two of the main accused dead, triggering talk of foul play.

Catherine Falls is named after Catherine Cockburn, the wife of M. D. Cockburn, who introduced coffee plantations in Kotagiri. One of the famous tourist attractions in Coonoor, the waterfalls are a treat to the eyes, attracting holidaymakers from different walks of life.

About 7 km away from Kotagiri and 21 km from Coonoor, Catherine Falls offers beautiful views of the Mettupalayam plains, dense forests and the surrounding hillocks. It is a go-to place for a half-day excursion and can be visited from dusk to dawn.
