Why doesn't Cape Independence include the Northern Cape (and the Eastern Cape)? Phil Craig (CIAG) at the Cape Town Press Club explains that the Western Cape is the initial focus of independence.

International law lists the requirements for statehood as a defined territory, with a permanent population, and political authority. The Western Cape has all of these and has clearly demonstrated during 3 decades of elections that is ideologically distinct from South Africa (This being one of the definitions of a people under international law).

Given that both the Northern Cape and the Eastern Cape perpetually vote ANC, it is much harder to claim ideological differences or have any reasonable prospect of obtaining majority democratic support for independence.

However, many of the municipalities along the Western Cape border do not vote ANC, and in time, based upon the democratic will of the people at the municipal level, there may be an opportunity to adjust the border to accommodate municipalities that wish to be included in the 'Cape of Good Hope'.
