🌟 SPOTLIGHT: SINK THE BISMARCK! LEGENDS
Kenneth More (Captain Shepard)
The absolute king of British cinema in the 50s. While he played the stoic hero Captain Shepard, his real life was a bit more chaotic with a string of affairs and a love for the high life that the tabloids loved. Sadly, Parkinson's disease took a heavy toll on him later on. He passed away back in '82, but he remains an icon of the era.
Dana Wynter (Anne Davis)
She was the stunning Anne Davis here, but did you know she was actually born in Berlin and grew up in Zimbabwe? She eventually made it big in Hollywood, notably in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. She lived a very quiet, private life in Ojai, California, stepping away from the chaos of LA, before passing away in 2011. A true class act.
Michael Hordern (Admiral Lutjens)
You might know him better as the voice of Paddington Bear later in life! He played the stern Admiral here. Fun fact: despite playing military men constantly, he was actually a bit of a quirky eccentric off-screen who loved fly fishing way more than acting. He continued working right up until his death in 1995.
Geoffrey Keen (Assistant Chief of Naval Staff)
If this guy looks familiar, it’s because he played the Minister of Defence in six—yes, six—James Bond films! He was the ultimate "government official" actor in British cinema. He had an incredibly steady career, rarely ever out of work, until he passed away in 2005. A true veteran of the industry.
Esmond Knight (Captain of Prince of Wales)
This is the wildest story of the bunch. He actually served on the Prince of Wales during the real battle with the Bismarck in WWII and was blinded in the fight! He recovered some sight in one eye and went back to acting, playing the Captain of his own ship in the movie. Talk about meta! He passed in '87.
