Once a symbol of freedom in West Berlin, Tegel airport quickly became too small (you could reach every gate in less than 10 minutes) for a united Berlin after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Now, 30 years later a new, much-delayed airport is finally taking its place.
On the last regular day before the final closure, more people than in a long time came to say goodbye and "thank you Tegel" to their beloved Airport.
I will miss our cozy airport!
