At the beginning of our performance of Bach’s St John Passion on 12 March 2022 we wanted to express solidarity with the people and choirs of Ukraine by reaching out with song as our fellow choirs around the world are doing. Here is our performance of Mykola Lysenko’s Prayer for Ukraine.
A translation of the words is:
Lord, great and almighty,
Protect our beloved Ukraine,
Bless her with freedom and light
Of your holy rays.
With learning and knowledge enlighten
Us, your small children,
In love pure and everlasting
Let us, O Lord, grow.
We pray, Lord almighty,
Protect our beloved Ukraine,
Grant our people and country
All your kindness and grace.
Bless us with freedom, bless us with wisdom,
Guide us into a kind world,
Bless us, O Lord, with good fortune
For ever and evermore.
