Mr. Bassman Meets Hot Wire Bass
In 1980, I opened Mr. Bassman in Frankfurt, Germany, and began building custom basses from various kit parts. After ZZ Top’s appearance on the Rockpalast show, which aired across Europe, demand for Rocky Hill-style Telecaster basses soared. I partnered with the emerging German company Rockinger to create Tele bass bodies made of mahogany with birdseye maple tops and bindings, and used ESP necks and Seymour Duncan Telecaster bass pickups. After 41 years, I replaced the broken original neck with a custom Hot Wire Bass neck, and it came out great!
