For RAW shooters, Picture Styles don’t affect the actual image data but do impact how the preview and histograms are displayed. Understanding how these styles work can help you make better decisions in-camera and reduce post-processing time.

I break down the different Picture Styles Canon provides, including Standard, Auto, Portrait, Landscape, Fine Detail, Neutral, Faithful, and Monochrome. Each one is designed for different shooting scenarios, from enhancing vibrant colors in landscapes to softening skin tones in portraits. I also discuss how Auto can be unpredictable, while Standard provides a more consistent look. Choosing the right Picture Style can help you get the results you want straight out of the camera.

Finally, I explain the benefits of User-Defined Picture Styles and how you can customize them to fit your personal style. You can tweak existing styles or even create your own using Canon’s Picture Style Editor software.
