Zimbabwe is facing its worst drought in 40 years, prompting wildlife officials to announce plans to cull 200 elephants to provide food for communities affected by the crisis. This decision follows a similar move by neighboring Namibia, which recently revealed plans to cull 160 animals, including 83 elephants, as both nations confront devastating food shortages caused by an El Niño-driven drought. With 68 million people in southern Africa impacted, both countries have declared states of emergency. This marks the first elephant culling in Zimbabwe since 1988, targeting regions such as Hwange, Mbire, Tsholotsho, and Chiredzi.
