Recognizing a compromised airway in a pediatric patient with a tracheostomy and addressing the issue immediately is the difference between life and death. Failure on the part of underprepared EMS providers to recognize and correct accidental decannulations and fully or partially obstructed tracheostomy tubes continues to be a cause of death and neurological devastation across the nation. While the care of patients with tracheostomies is covered in most prehospital training programs, very large variances exist that have caused confusion. With the incorporation of real emergency case scenarios, this webinar will include the often-overlooked reasons as to why infants and children receive tracheostomies, differences between common tracheostomy tubes, and emergency troubleshooting.
