Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday trashed the central government's claims of cutting costs if elections to the Lok Sabha and the state assemblies are held together. In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha said the cost incurred by the Election Commission "in all the elections between 2014 to 2019 is around Rs 5,500 crore" and added that the amount is "only a fraction" of the central government's budget expenditure
