I Followed an Edwardian Stage Makeup Tutorial from 1905

Описание: This video was inspired by Abby Cox's video a couple of weeks ago. Honestly this inspiration hit at the perfect time because I had no idea what I was going to do for this week's video. It is perfect because the thing that is keeping me away from my sewing machine is I've been in a musical set in the Edwardian era (I played Phoebe in Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder for all you musical theatre fans out there). I bought this book for $5 at an antique mall. When I found it I thought it perfectly combined my love of the Edwardian era and my love of the stage. Most of the contents of the book are pretty racist and I will state here again it is never ok to make yourself look like another race using makeup but I wanted to see how the instructions for basic stake makeup of a book geared towards mostly men in the theatre differed from the tutorial article Abby used which was clearly written for women who were not actors. I also wanted to use products as close as I could to what they would have used at the time such as the suggested cream paint for women though you will see in the video there were instructions that I said heck no to.

The Book is called Making Up by James Young and it was published in 1905. If you are interested in the book it is on archive.org I just want to warn you that a lot of the language is disturbing.
