In TCM, the urinary system is closely associated with the Kidney and Bladder meridians. The Kidneys are considered the foundation of life energy, responsible for the health of bones, ears, and reproductive organs, and for managing water metabolism, which directly impacts urinary function. The Bladder meridian, extending from the head down to the legs, works with the Kidney meridian to regulate water balance, waste removal, and immune protection.
Diseases in the urinary system are often attributed to imbalances or blockages in these meridians. For example, TCM may view frequent urination as a sign of a weakened Kidney Qi, while infections could result from damp-heat stagnation in the Bladder. By targeting specific acupuncture points along these meridians, acupuncture aims to address the root imbalances, helping to alleviate symptoms and promote urinary health.
