Signs he or she is a covert narcissist can be difficult to process because on the surface they appear to be so damn 'nice'. They don't fit the typical signs of narcissism so many of us look out for.

In my humble opinion, the biggest misconception about narcissists is that they are grandiose, care about the way they look and are simply seeking attention through vanity. This misconception was the reason I stayed locked so long in a dysfunctional marriage. My ex, on the surface, LOOKED nothing like a narcissist.

Over the years, I began to question my sanity!
I was ALWAYS wrong--and he was always right--and eventually, I began to BELIEVE him.

I had been bamboozled by a covert narcissist who had ALL the symptoms of narcissism--except--when it came to grandiosity and vanity.

Narcissists are CONVINCED they are RIGHT which makes them INCREDIBLY convincing. AND because on the surface he was so kind to others, I would always feel confused and think, "It must be me! He is so nice to everyone else!"

Narcissists feel ENTITLED.
Narcissists EXPLOIT other people's insecurities, needs, wants, and emotions.
Narcissists lack EMPATHY--but--they can fake it.

Narcissists can turn empathy on and off. They are HYPOCRITICAL. They are BLACK and WHITE thinkers; they are right and everyone who disagrees with them is wrong.

On the surface, they may look like pillars of the community--BUT--get up close and personal--and expect them to have their priorities in order--threaten their ego strokes--and WATCH OUT!

Let me know what you think and if you have been fooled by someone who seemed AWESOME at the beginning but soon revealed themselves to be anything but kind and empathetic.
