The Terminator (1984) Faux 4K UHD Review: A Cameron Terminator Upscale in Disguise

I review the new 4K UHD release of THE TERMINATOR from Warner Bros. Unfortunately this is yet another James Cameron film that has been given the AI upscaling treatment from a preexisting revised master. It is one of the sneakiest of these as most will be fooled by the apparent visual upgrade or passable visuals. But look closely at all and the anatomies start to appear. This “4K restoration” is anything but and resembles the Terminator itself being designed as an infiltration unit.
The mono mix has been released on this new version for the first time in over 20 years but even that is a new over processed version that doesn’t hold a candle to the best of past releases.
Additionally we see no new extras on this release which also manages to drop extras from past releases.
While this may be one of the more barely passable Cameron 4K masters it is completely unacceptable and an underhanded insult to the film. It is also an unbelievably sneaky bait and switch to the consumer as you are asked to buy a screwed with version of the 2012 master you already own on Blu-ray.
But of course James Cameron insists we all have no life and live in our mother’s basements.
