Описание: Let’s talk about the Pyle PLTS78DUB, the good, the bad and the ugly.

Installation was easy, I did have to cut and crip the wires in my vehicle since I was not using the RCA amplifier plugs. It was easy enough to go online and with the radio wiring diagram for my vehicle. I went one wire at a time, double checking each one and in a short time it was in. The mounting bracket snaps in and the radio slides into that.

Now, there are $400-$500 Pioneer and Kenwood radio’s of this exact design with flip out screen. If you are buying this unit for $130 and thinking you’re getting that, I want to tell you, you are not. That doesn’t mean all is bad. The sound quality is better than the stock 1995 Ford cassette deck that it replaced. I am running upgraded speakers in the front and the rears are in good condition. This unit has a dedicated subwoofer out and I believe utilizing that would really elevate the listening experience. There are plenty of adjustments for sound. The radio function is good; the radio interface is easy to navigate.

The mechanism that operates the screen is smooth, the radio wakes off the key and you have music quickly while the screen is opening, its not the fastest thing in the world, but not sure if I expected it to be faster or not.
One of the pieces I found to be misrepresented in Pyle’s description of this radio is that it is, and I quote “SMART DEVICE COMPATIBILITY: The in-dash car deck console unit allows you to connect various devices such as iPhone, Android mobile”. Now this is true, but what it is actually doing is just mirroring your phone screen. There is NO functionality on the Pyle head unit touch screen. It is merely showing the screen of your phone. All actions must be taken on your phone. That said, if you have your maps app open on your phone, it is now on the screen with audio out the speakers. It is NOT Android Auto or Car Play.

There are issues of quality in terms of the touchscreen and the angle of the viewing area. First the touch screen is barely adequate. I’m not saying it doesn’t work at all, but you must put your full fingertip on the screen, pause for a split second and then make your motion. It’s not exactly easy to do while driving. There is a real hit and miss with the touch screen that makes it a bit frustrating. There is a touch screen calibration in the setup, but I didn’t think it made much difference. But with that said, some time with it, I was able to get a rhythm going when using the touch screen. But there are still many dropouts and repeated motions trying to navigate the system. I will say, it does seem like it’s getting better the more I use it, but that could also just be me adjusting to it’s limitations.

Next is the angle of the viewing area of the 7” display. The screen is best viewed looking straight into it, but of course you’re not doing that. From the driver’s seat the screen is washed out, I must constantly dip my head to the side to get a clearer view. The screen itself is simply not bright enough to overcome mid-day sun. Pyle lists the screen as having “Brightness 400 Nits” and I can say, that’s not enough. There is no actual brightness control, it’s set, the adjustment in the setting for “Brightness” only turns the screen white or black, it does not brighten up the screen with more light.
So what is my conclusion? I’m not taking it out. I may add a small powered under seat sub to fill out the sound and not force the other speakers to work so hard. After initial set up and dealing with the buggy touch screen, there isn’t all that much screen touching. Radio channel presets, EQ settings, clock and preferences, after that, it’s more about the volume knob than the touch screen. I’m not sure I would ever want to spend $500 on a stereo for the vehicle it’s in, to have the quality I wish this was. So I guess it’s good enough.
