Independence Hall in Philadelphia is a very important and interesting UNESCO World Heritage Site. Constructed in the mid-18th century to serve as the meeting-house for the colonial government of Pennsylvania, it was later the location where both the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution were hammered out, agreed upon, and signed. In some ways, much of our modern history can be traced back to this unassuming brick building in Philadelphia.
