A little backstory on how I scored Domestos for 99 cents at Burlington (0:37). I was at Dollar Tree looking for some Fabuloso Complete Cool Mist (which I didn’t find…again) and decided to stop by Burlington since it was right there. I really didn’t want to stop by Burlington but again decided to stop in and pick up some Domestos since I was out. Well I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Domestos for only 99 cents. The price I paid before was $2.99 but some others have reported it being $3.99, $5.99, or $10 at Home Goods. So I grabbed every bottle off the shelf. I went back like a week later to see if they had more but there was none in sight. I was afraid this was going to happen. I think Burlington marked it down to get rid of it and will no longer be stocking it.

✨About this video✨
6 bottles of Domestos Pine on 2 Clamshell Grout Sponges. The clamshell grouts turned super soft and huge as expected. The squeezes were so juicy and delicious I didn’t want to stop. The beautiful amber golden pine color and sizzling sounds are what pine dreams are made of. These clamshell sponges were made for this type of pine. No rips or tears. The sponge really held up well and still had a firmness to them even though they were really soft.

A nice big hole (5:56) in my glove courtesy of Domestos. This pine just eats through gloves like any strong pine would. Hexol is notorious for that.

Before I started the rinse, I took a dip in my trusty paste bucket (8:27). Just a quick dip to make the rinse interesting. Domestos mixed with water just turns cloudy and sudless.

Why do I call Domestos a pine?
There’s been such a debate in the Instagram Sponge Community about whether or not Domestos is a pine. I feel like people don’t consider it a pine because it doesn’t explicitly say “pine” on the bottle. Domestos and Dettol have similar ingredients. Below is a list of ingredients for comparison.

Domestos Multi-Purpose Disinfectant Liquid

Chloroxylenol 1.8%

Ingredients: Water, Chloroxylenol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Terpineol, Potassium Ricinoleate, Perfume (Fragrance), Pigment Orange, Pigment Blue, Citral, Limonene, Linalool.

Dettol Antiseptic Disinfectant Liquid

Chloroxylenol 4.8%

Ingredients: Water, Chloroxylenol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Pine Oil, Castor Oil Soap, Caustic Soda Solution, Caramel Coloring

As I was researching the two, I discovered some bottles of Dettol have “Terpineol” wording instead of “Pine Oil”.

What is Terpineol?
Terpineols have been isolated from a variety of sources such as pine oil, cardamom, cajuput oil, and petitgrain oil. It occurs naturally in more than 150 plants, including pine trees, cannabis, lilacs, lime blossoms, and eucalyptus sap.

How does Domestos Pine smell?
On the back of the bottle, the scent is described as “fresh lemon fragrance”. I’ve definitely never smelled any “fresh lemons” like this before.
To me it has a “hospital smell” mixed with rubbing alcohol. The smell does linger in your sponges forever. I think this product is one you have to grow to love if you don’t like it initially.
It also has a “high effect” when you first use it. I’ve come to realize that high effect is from the terpineol and linalool. Both of those are found in the green stuff 🍃.

So in conclusion that’s why I call it, “Domestos Pine”. It is low key a knockoff of Dettol but I can’t say that in full confidence since I’ve only smelled Dettol, not squeezed in it.
