The exchange turned into a tense argument, ending with Obi-Wan reluctantly accepting his choice and informing the Council. For now, only the Council knows the truth of his departure.
Despite their new path, the war is never far away. On long nights between missions, Anakin still speaks to Padmé through encrypted transmissions, their conversations a fragile thread of normalcy in a galaxy still teetering on the edge.
Then, one evening, as Coruscant’s skylanes glow with streams of traffic, an encrypted military transmission cuts through their private comm. The voice is Rex’s — low, urgent, and edged with something Anakin hasn’t heard from him in years: fear.
Rex: “General… it’s Fives. He’s found something. Big. He’s not safe.”
Anakin: “What happened? Is he hurt?”
Rex: “I can’t explain over comms, sir. Too many ears. You need to see for yourself.”
Anakin: “Rex, talk to me. What’s going on?”
Rex: “I’m sorry, General… this isn’t the kind of thing I can say here. Please — just come.”
Anakin: “Send me your location. We’re on our way.”
