Two days later, the car was found abandoned in an alley near 38th Street. Witnesses later recalled seeing a man driving it, but Zoe was nowhere to be found.

For years, her family searched relentlessly. Her mother, Melinda, never gave up organising search parties, putting up posters, and speaking to media outlets every year on the anniversary of Zoe’s disappearance.

But the case went cold… until late 2018, when new leads led police to reexamine the home of a man named Carlos Rodriguez. Rodriguez, who had once been questioned but never charged, was now suspected again after inconsistencies emerged in his statements.

When investigators searched his backyard, they discovered something chilling, human remains buried beneath a layer of concrete. DNA testing confirmed they belonged to Zoe Campos.

Rodriguez eventually confessed to k~lling Zoe the night she disappeared. He told police they had been watching a movie when an argument broke out and he “snapped,” str*ngling her. He buried her body in his backyard and poured concrete over it, hiding the truth for five long years.
