In this live discussion, we begin by breaking down the erasure of Black presence in Miami-Dade County, specifically Coconut Grove, Miami’s first Black community. Once a thriving Black economic hub, Coconut Grove is now heavily gentrified, with Black residents pushed into poverty, shut out of homeownership, and locked into low-wage labor or homelessness.

We explain how Black Americans are forced to fight an unequal system where the rules are hidden, unlike sports where rules are clear and enforced equally. This is why Black Americans have survived — but also why progress is intentionally blocked.

The conversation then expands to immigration, Somali communities, Minnesota, and Venezuela, and why many immigrants are now saying things are “getting scary.” Black Americans respond by asking: Where were immigrants when we were sounding the alarm about white supremacy?

We discuss how trust in American systems has repeatedly failed Black Americans — and why immigrants are now experiencing the same reality Black Americans have been navigating for generations.
