Описание: We are delighted to add this one of a kind historically significant 1969 Lotus Super 7 Holbay S to our showroom.
Way back in 1969 looking to break into the luxury sportscar market Lotus planned to add a new Super 7 model to its range- calling it the Super 7 Holbay S. It was to feature a tuned 1558cc Holbay crossflow engine producing 120bhp and driven through a close ratio 4 speed gearbox. With a kerb weight of just 600KG this would allow the Holbay S to sprint to 60 in just 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 114mph flat out. The interior would feature quality contoured leather, wool carpets and even a radio. It featured upgraded wheels and more exterior brightwork.
The cost of this extra performance and exclusivity? A brand-new car was priced at £1600, which was over double the price of a standard Super 7. Unfortunately, the extra cost put buyers off and the example you see here is the one and only ever made.
Finished in Rolls Royce Regency red with Champagne hide it was specially built at Lotus factory in Hethel to be used as a publicity vehicle and demonstrator. It played a starring role in the 1970 Sports Car Show featuring in much of the events publicity material. It also featured prominently in period magazines being road-tested and reviewed by journalists. The previous owner has gone to great lengths to secure copies of these and the history file has a plethora of period literature featuring the car (Including 2 large original framed posters). Hot car magazine describes it “the nearest thing you’ll come to a racing car that you can also live with on the road”.
TNG7G (The cars original and current registration) stayed with Lotus until September 1970 when it was sold to its first private owner, Mr RD Lewin of London. The car passed through several owners before becoming the property of Vincent Haydon, a very well-known figure in Lotus circles based in Lymington. Carefully restored to original specification over a 15-year period starting in the late 80’s she has been meticulously maintained ever since. Today she remains in superb condition with only a few signs of wear. The rebuilt 1558cc Holbay Lotus engine springs into life and runs quietly even when cold.
The service file is vast containing many photographs of the restoration, numerous old MOT’s (Earliest 1977) and hundreds of invoices for parts and general maintenance. The currently milage of 50,639 is authentic and can be verified using the MOT certificates and other documents. Also to be found are the aforementioned classic magazines featuring the car and other related literature.
