Описание: Durg Bhandar Fort is an extremely remote and mysterious fort located in the Trimbakeshwar region of Nashik district, nestled within the ancient and sacred Brahmagiri mountain range. The Brahmagiri range holds great religious significance in Hinduism, as it is believed to be the birthplace of the Godavari River, and since ancient times this region has been known as a center for the penance and meditation of sages and saints. In the medieval period, especially during the Yadava and Maratha eras, this entire region gained not only religious importance but also strong strategic value. Several forts such as Trimbakgad and Harihar Fort were constructed in the Brahmagiri range, and Durg Bhandar is believed to be associated with these forts, though it served a very different purpose. According to historians, Durg Bhandar was not primarily built for warfare, but was likely used for the secure storage of grains, weapons, and valuable materials, which is why it came to be known as “Bhandar,” meaning a storehouse. The fort’s structure is extremely thrilling, featuring narrow rock-cut steps, natural paths running along deep valleys, and a slender ridge connecting two massive cliffs. In some sections, the route is so narrow with a sheer drop on one side that every step demands extreme caution, truly making it a place where one mistake could mean a direct fall below. Although very few structural remains are found at the summit, the breathtaking 360-degree views, the raw beauty of the Brahmagiri range, and the profound sense of isolation make the journey unforgettable. Thus, rather than grand war stories, Durg Bhandar Fort is remembered for its secrecy, unique design, and deep connection to the ancient history of Brahmagiri, making it one of the most enigmatic forts in the Sahyadri range.
