Adding speed to the “check” cue for a tighter wrap on a turn.
Controlling the amount of drift through a turn is always a challenge for a dog who’s shoulder height is higher then the jump height. It’s quite a bit easier when the height of the jump is over the dogs withers because the dog has more bascule in the flight phase of their jumping effort. The spacing of AKC titling courses isn’t very friendly to fast large dogs so jumping up a height isn’t always productive option.
Since Grin:) and I are entering AKC in the upcoming months, we practiced a bit at the 20” jump height this week. Getting these turns isn’t as much of a challenge at our USDAA jump height (24”) so we brought out the props and had some fun leveling up this skill.
Another easy thing to train in small spaces with limited equipment.
